The Treasury Department postponed the large employer mandate portion of The Affordable Care Act by one year to 2015. The large employer mandate required employers with 50 or more full-time equivalent employees to provide affordable health care to its employees or pay a penalty. Due to the complexity of the law, the mandate was postponed.

Some possible good news for small businesses is that some congressional leaders want to use this deferral of time to tighten the definition of full time employee equivalents, reducing the number of part time employees being counted as full time. This is the only portion of the Affordable Care Act that has been postponed at this point in time. If you have any questions, please contact our Tax Services Group at 317.241.2999.
