Tax Deadline Pushed to July 15

Published:

After announcing earlier this week that the tax payment deadline for individuals was moving from April 15th to July 15th, it does appear the federal government will also move the individual tax filing deadline to July 15th.

In addition, individuals first quarter estimated tax payments for tax year 2020 can also be deferred to July 15th, although it appears at this point that the second quarter estimated tax payment is still due by June 15th.  The 4/15 tax payment deferments should help provide welcome relief by allowing Americans to hold onto their cash longer during these uncertain times.

The State of Indiana has already indicated that they too will push the filing and payment deadlines to July 15th.  The tax rules vary by state, but it’s reasonable to expect most states will follow the federal government’s lead and extend their filing and payment deadlines.
