Getting to Know Chaleise

What was it about the accounting profession that drew your interest?

I was drawn to the ability to work with people and their businesses, and be a part of helping their business grow, develop, and succeed. I also love the challenge. Every client and return is different and unique. I feel very satisfied after finishing a difficult return or seeing the successful results of tax planning.

What wisdom would you offer to aspiring accountants?

Believe in yourself and don’t give up! Work hard and study hard. There is a lot of work and study involved to become a CPA, but it is totally worth it and you can do it if you believe in yourself.

What’s your career highlight?

I was very proud to graduate with honors and in the top percentage of my class. Passing the CPA and CFE exams were also huge achievements, especially as I passed them both promptly after college and while working full time. My most recent achievement is of course being promoted to tax manager. It has always been a goal of mine and I am excited to fulfill my role and grow even more in my career!

What was your first job?

My first job was teaching horse riding lessons. Not only was the work fun, it helped me learn how to train, communicate, and work with a variety of age groups and levels of riding experience. I also learned how to market myself and got my first taste of managing a small business.

What music/bands do you like to listen to?

I prefer rock, especially classic rock, but my music taste varies pending my mood and what I am doing. Somedays you will catch me listening to Lifehouse, promptly followed by ACDC or Rob Zombie!

When you are not at work, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy riding my horses and competing or taking my car to car shows or just out cruising. I also enjoy relaxing at home with my husband and cats (Steiner and Peppermint Patty), reading, drawing, and running.
